How to download presentations using an online SlideShare downloader

A SlideShare downloader online needs only the link to the presentation. The steps are the same on any device with a browser.

  1. Open the presentation on SlideShare and copy its address from the address bar. On a phone, use the share menu and choose copy link.
  2. Paste the link into the box at the top of this page. The Paste button fills it in from your clipboard.
  3. Press Download. The tool reads the deck and shows its title, author and number of slides.
  4. Pick PDF, PPTX or All Slides (ZIP). To keep just one slide, open it and save it as a JPG.
  5. Open the file from your downloads folder. A large deck takes a little longer to build.

The link has to point to one presentation, for example slideshare.net/slideshow/deck-name/123456. A profile, a search page or a category page will not work.

This works for any public deck, so you can download a SlideShare presentation for offline use. For a longer walkthrough, read our guide on how to save SlideShare as a high resolution PDF.

PDF or PPTX: Which file format works best?

Pick the format by what you plan to do next. SlideShare to PDF is best for reading and printing. If you want a SlideShare PPT downloader, choose PPTX to present or reuse the slides.

PDF or PPTX: Which file format works best?
FormatBest forWhat you get
PDF Reading, printing and sharingOne page per slide, in the same proportions as the original.
PPTX Presenting, or adding slides to your own deckOne picture per slide. Opens in PowerPoint, Keynote and Google Slides.
ZIP of JPG files Using several slides as imagesEvery slide as a numbered JPG.
Single JPG Quoting one slideThe slide you choose, saved as one image.

Both files are built from the slide pictures, so the text is part of the image. You can read it, but you cannot select or edit it.

The FAQ below explains how to get editable text. The tool saves the largest image SlideShare offers, up to 2048 pixels wide, and falls back to a smaller one if a slide lacks that size. No watermark is added.

Both formats are open standards. PDF is defined by ISO 32000, and PPTX follows the Office Open XML standard, ECMA-376. If you only need a PowerPoint file, see how to convert SlideShare to PPTX.

How to save slides when an author disables the download button

SlideShare lets each author choose whether people can download a deck. If the button is missing, the author turned it off.

Start by asking. Open the author's profile and send a short message. Many authors will share the original file if you explain what it is for.

Next, check the license. A deck under a Creative Commons license can be copied and shared if you follow its terms, and giving credit is usually one of them.

You can also look for the source. Authors often post the same deck on their own website, a GitHub page or a conference site, where a download link may exist.

Keep in mind what this tool does. It reads the slide pictures that SlideShare shows to every visitor. When an author has turned downloads off, the tool tells you so on the results screen.

The author's choice still matters. Keeping a copy for your own study is one thing. Posting, selling or presenting someone else's slides as your own is another, and it can break copyright law.

Why your download fails and how to solve common errors

Most failures come from the link, not the tool. Match what you see on screen with the table below.

Why your download fails and how to solve common errors
What you seeWhy it happensWhat to do
"Not a SlideShare presentation link"The text is not a slideshare.net address, or it points to the home page or a profile.Open one presentation and copy its address again.
"Presentation was not found"The deck was deleted, or the link has a typo.Open the link in a new tab. If SlideShare also shows an error, the deck is gone.
"Presentation is private"The author limited who can view it.Private decks cannot be downloaded. Ask the author to share the file.
"Could not find any slides"The page is not a slide deck, or SlideShare changed how the page is built.Try again in a few minutes. If it keeps failing, contact us with the link.
"Too many requests" or "service is busy"You sent many links in a short time, or many people are using the tool.Wait a few minutes and try again.
"Download link has expired"Download links stay active for 30 minutes.Paste the SlideShare link again to get a fresh one.

A deck with many slides takes longer because every slide is fetched before the file is built. Keep the tab open until the download starts.

Frequently asked questions

Can you download private or password-protected SlideShare decks?

No. A private deck can only be seen by its owner or by people the owner allows, so there is nothing public for a downloader to read.

If you need a private deck, ask the author to share the file or to make the deck public. Never type a SlideShare password into any other website.

Do you need a LinkedIn or Scribd account to use a downloader?

Not for this one. You paste a public link and get your file, with no sign-up.

SlideShare itself may ask you to sign in before it lets you use its own download button. SlideShare belongs to Scribd, which bought it from LinkedIn in 2020.

Why does a downloaded PPT file open as flat images instead of editable text?

SlideShare shows every slide as a picture, even when the author uploaded a PowerPoint file. A downloader can only save what SlideShare shows, so each slide in your PPTX is one image.

To get text you can edit, ask the author for the original file.

You can also run the PDF through an OCR tool, such as the one in Adobe Acrobat or Google Drive, which reads the words from the pictures. Expect to fix a few mistakes by hand.

Does saving a deck through a downloader lower image resolution?

Not in this tool. It saves the largest image SlideShare lists for each slide, up to 2048 pixels wide, and builds the PDF or PPTX from that image.

A saved deck can still look softer than the original on a big screen. SlideShare serves slides as pictures, so zooming in shows pixels instead of sharp text.

Can you open downloaded presentations directly in Google Slides?

Yes, if you save the PPTX. In Google Slides, choose File, then Open, then Upload, and pick the file. PowerPoint and Keynote also open PPTX files.

A PDF is not made for editing in Google Slides, so use the PPTX when you want to work with the slides. Each slide arrives as one picture.

What should you do if your browser blocks the file?

Open your browser's downloads list. Some browsers hold a file until you choose Keep or Allow.

If nothing appears, turn off any extension that blocks downloads or pop-ups for this page, then try again. The View button opens the PDF in a new tab, so allow pop-ups for it.

Trying a different browser also solves most cases. Check that the page address starts with https.
